Moving to Beta soon!

Dear users,

It is our pleasure to announce that Moozement is maturing to Beta stage within approximately a week!

The Alpha stage has been fun and a great learning experience: the service has gathered a nice amount of users & we’re especially happy about the amount of training log entries made. The experiences from the Alpha, numerous feature requests and discussions with the users have been the backbone of our Beta design process.

Good to know about the Beta:

- The name of the service will change: we’re moving to “a fun name with a sporty story”. Not that we don’t like Moozement, but we felt that the name could be more closely linked with the service. You don’t need to worry about the change: we’ll redirect you to the new domain.
- Your old login details will naturally work with the Beta and all your data created in the Alpha will be there.
- The Terms of Service will be slightly updated: we’ll be asking existing users to approve the new ToS before moving to the new service.
- Not all Alpha features will be supported from the start: we decided to launch early “with a skeleton that we’ll start building on” rather than have everything on board from the start. Please be patient…
- We’ve collected a bit of backlog of new sport requests during the past few months, but are finally looking to introduce over 100 new sports with the Beta.
- The Beta will be very much an evolving platform, with new stuff introduced and improvements made continuously: we very closely follow user feedback and ideas, so please keep them coming!

Keep on Moozing (for a couple of days still)!

Privacy settings

We’ve recently introduced simple privacy settings to Moozement. By following the path Settings -> Privacy (Asetukset -> Yksityisyys in Finnish, Настройки -> Конфиденциальность in Russian), you can select to share your profile details and training data either with all Moozement users or only with your friends. Your name and picture are visible to all Moozement users regardless of your privacy settings.

Training log RSS feed

We now support publishing your training log as an RSS feed. The latest 20 entries are available via the feed.

Those of you with moderate tech skills can do numerous things with this: you can publish your trainings in your blog, share your trainings in numerous services supporting RSS incorporation, create widgets for services like iGoogle or Netvibes, etc.

Publishing an RSS feed needs to be enabled in the settings: Public – Publish RSS feed.

Mobile Moozement

Moozement is now available in a simplified form for certain mobile phones – just use the normal URL www.moozement.com on your phone browser. At least S60 phones and the iPhone support our mobile site, verified support for other phone platforms and browsers is on the way.

The feature set on mobile is quite limited now, but we’ll be enriching it along the way. The look and feel of the service might be a bit clumsy still on some browsers, but we’ll be fixing these issues during the coming days.

Facebook Connect doesn’t support mobile usage, so login via Facebook unfortunately does not work on mobile right now. Hopefully sometime in the near future… Also, there might be problems with Google and Twitter login pages on certain browsers, but unfortunately we cannot affect those either, as they are standard services from the respective companies.

First localizations: suomi and русский

Moozement is now available also in Finnish and Russian besides the original English language version. These were obvious first choices, as we have native speakers of these languages in the team. We’re looking to introduce several other language variants in the future – so if you like the service and have skills for wordsmithing in your own language, please let us know! Especially Spanish, German, French & Italian would be interesting next steps!

There are bound to be some translation bugs or funny expressions in the new languages, so please drop us a line at mooze (at) moozement.com, if you run across something like this.

New features & Twitter integration

We’ve just introduced a major new release with several usability improvements, new languages, and the possibility to share your exercises on Twitter.

The Twitter integration works in two different ways: You can share all your exercises automatically by ticking a box and selecting a Twitter account in your profile settings. You can also share individual exercises by clicking the Twitter icon next to your exercises. Other possibilities for sharing individual exercises are coming soon. Sharing all your exercised on Facebook already works with our Facebook app.

This release didn’t include any new sports, but we have a backlog of about 80 new sports requested by users. We’ll come back to those with a new release ASAP.

Beta planning started

Dear Moozement users,

We have recently started planning our Beta release, due later this year. We very much want to keep the service simple, but at the same time make it more useful, more entertaining, more visual, and more social.

It would be great, if you could take 5 minutes to answer our Beta Planning Questionnaire. All the data will be analyzed anonymously.

The questionnaire will be open for one week until June 11.

Beta planning does not mean that we’d stop developing the Alpha – we’re still implementing improvements, introducing new sports, etc. So if you have ideas for improving the current service, just write us at mooze (at) moozement (dot) com.

Thanks in advance for your help and keep on Moozing!

Media coverage: KillerStartups

Moozement was covered as a possible “killer” at KillerStartups.com with the reasoning

“it will be attractive to many people that are interested in improving their fitness while sharing and competing with their friends”.

Good stuff!
